PROGRAMME FOR PERFORMANCES!

We now have the programme for the Dance Algarve Performances, on the evenings of Thursday April 1st and Friday April 2nd.

On Thursday the evening starts with John Mowat's interpretation of The Tempest, by William Shakespeare - a dark and magical visualisation of this famous play, demonstrating how communication can be achieved using gesticulation and mime, with very little dialogue. This is indeed the genre for which John is so well known.
It will be performed by three actors from the Chapitô Theatre in Lisbon; Jorge Cruz, Marta Cerqueira and Tiago Viegas.

Following this, the Cape Junior Ballet will dance for us - a mixed programme performed with their customary enthusiasm, energy and technical expertise. Attendees of Dance Algarve 2008 will remember the joy of their dancing and the sheer professionalism of such a young group.

Friday evening commences with two solo performances from a young Italian dancer - Maria Catarina Mambretti, from the 'enjoydance' school, Italy, directed by Cristina Zatti and Michele Vegis.

Then the Cape Junior ballet take over once more, and we will be treated to more variations from this hard working group - every student dancing will have attended classes throughout the two days, as well as performing in the evenings!

O Cape Junior Ballet da Cidade do Cabo, África do Sul, que participou da Dance Algarve 2008, já confirmaram que estarão participando, mais uma vez, em Dance Algarve 2010.

Os membros da conpanhia estará participando de cursos e dançando em duas apresentações públicas a ser encenado no teatro do Centro Cultural de Lagos, Lagos, Algarve, Portugal nas noites de quinta-feira, 1 º e sexta-feira, 2 abril, 2010. Os bilhetes estarão disponíveis até uma semana antes da bilheteira do Centro Cultural de Lagos.

The Cape Junior Ballet from Cape Town, South Africa, who participated in Dance Algarve 2008, have now confirmed that they will be participating in Dance Algarve 2010.

The members of the company will be participating in the courses and dancing in two public performances to be staged in the theatre of the Centro Cultural de Lagos, Lagos, Algarve, Portugal on the evenings of Thursday, 1st and Friday, 2nd April 2010. Tickets will be available up to one week before from the ticket office of the Centro Cultural de Lagos.

Associação da Dança Ibérica

A Associação da Dança Ibérica foi criada em 2007 por três professoras de ballet que vivem no Algarve e que ansiavam por fazer algo de promoção da Dança. O conceito original do Workshop de Dança que viesse preencher estes ideais veio de Caroline Chapman Costa, professora de ballet de Almancil, que é membro da Associação. Os actuais Directores são Gwen Franco, professora de ballet em Lagos, Gillian Anthony, professora de ballet internacional e examinadora da Royal Academy of Dance e Bernadete Bishop, Mestre em Criatividade e Arquitecta. A Associação tem como patronos Armando Jorge e Margarida Sá Fialho.

Através da formação da Associação da Dança Ibérica, nasceu o Dance Algarve!

Os objectivos do Dance Algarve são incentivar a dança, com foco no ballet clássico, e oferecer a oportunidade a alunos de ballet da Europa e não só, de beneficiar da experiência de professores de reputação internacional. Durante quatro dias de dança e música os alunos serão leccionados por este distinto corpo docente no Centro Cultural de Lagos e noutros estúdios, gentilmente cedidos para este evento pela Câmara Municipal de Lagos.

O Dance Algarve 2010 decorre de 31 de Março a 3 de Abril deste ano.

e Kenn Burke – Assistente de Direcção de “Shall We Dance”, Sadlers Wells, Londres.

acompanham todas as aulas.

Flamenco – com Brigitta Luisa Merki – Bailarina, Coreógrafa, Directora Artística de “Flamencos en

Na última noite do Curso os alunos têm a oportunidade de actuar no Centro Cultural. Os alunos irão demonstrar o que aprenderam numa peça disciplinada e alegre, para familiares, amigos e convidados.

CURSO PARA PROFESSORES

A decorrer em simultâneo temos o Curso para Professores de Ballet com a orientação de professores de grande qualidade e experiência - Dianne Cheesman (África do Sul), Cristina Zatti (Itália) e Maria Palmeirim (Portugal). O curso concentra-se em diversos níveis de ensino dirigidos a diferentes padrões de alunos, desde os níveis básico até aos níveis avançado e vocacional.

MASTER CLASS – um novo elemento este ano!

Maria Palmeirim – Mestre de Bailado – Companhia Nacional de Bailado, Lisboa, aceitou gentilmente leccionar uma Master Class, Sexta-feira, dia 2 de Abril.

ESPECTÁCULOS PARA O PÚBLICO

O Dance Algarve sente-se encantado por receber o Cape Junior Ballet mais uma vez! Os seus membros irão frequentar as aulas durante os quatro dias e, nas noites de Quinta-feira, dia 1 e Sexta-feira, 2 de Abril, irão encantar-nos com o seu profissionalismo, num espectáculo sob direcção de Dianne Cheesman .

A apresentação do Cape Junior Ballet faz parte de um programa diverso para estas noites.

As apresentações são abertas ao público em geral - os bilhetes estão disponíveis no Centro Cultural.

Reservas no Dance Algarve e Curso para Professores

Neste momento estamos ocupados na criação de cartazes, folhetos, certificados, etc, e a arranjar publicidade.

As reservas para o Curso dirigido aos alunos também começam a chegar - devagar, mas certos. Por certo haverá mais reservas após o Natal, antes da corrida para assegurar um lugar de 22 de janeiro, para beneficiar com o esquema de Pagamento Antecipado.

As reservas também estão a ser feitas para o Curso para Professores - também há um esquema de Pagamento Antecipado neste curso.

Professores eminentes, Cristina Zatti de Itália, Dianne Cheesman da África do Sul e Maria Palmeirim da Companhia Nacional de Bailado, Lisboa, irão dirigir o curso para professores, que este ano decorrerá com duas sessões distintas.

Cristina Zatti e Diane Cheesman irão dirigir o curso para professores de jovens alunos inseridos no sistema de graus, enquanto Maria Palmeirim irá trabalhar com professores que se concentram nos níveis mais elevados. As oportunidades de inspiração e aprendizagem são múltiplas!

Sou voluntária na ajuda à organização do Dance Algarve 2010 e este será o meu foco de energia nos próximos meses.

Está tudo a correr segundo os planos - o distinto Corpo Docente escolhido e confirmado, bem como a sua deslocação e alojamento. A programação para os alunos oferece uma estimulante mistura entre dança clássica e moderna, flamenco e workshop de máscaras, e terá a oportunidade de actuar na última a noite do curso.

Nas duas noites anteriores, grupos convidados irão actuar para o público em geral, e este ano sentimo-nos honrados por ter novamente a CAPE JUNIOR BALLET. Os alunos irão frequentar o Curso durante o dia e encantar-nos durante duas noites com a sua arte, segundo a direcção dinâmica de Dianne Cheesman.

Associação da Dança Ibérica

In 2007 the Associação da Dança Ibérica was formed by three ballet teachers living in the Algarve, who were anxious to do something to promote Dance. The original concept of a Dance Workshop to fulfill these ideals, came from Caroline Chapman Costa, a ballet teacher from Almancil, who is a member of the Associação. The present Directors are Gwen Franco, a ballet teacher in Lagos, Gillian Anthony, an international ballet teacher and examiner for the Royal Academy of Dance, and Bernadete Bishop, who has a Masters degree in Creativity and is an Architect. The Associação is under the patronage of Armando Jorge and Margarida Sá Fiálho.

From the formation of Associação da Dança Ibérica, Dance Algarve was born!

The purpose of Dance Algarve is to encourage dance, with a focus on classical ballet, and to provide the opportunity for ballet students from all over Europe and beyond, to benefit from the expertise of professional teachers of international repute. They study under these distinguished faculty members for four glorious days of dance and music at the Centro Cultural de Lagos, and other studios, kindly given for this event by the Câmara de Lagos.

Dance Algarve 2010 will run from 31st March until 3rd April this year.

TEACHER'S COURSE

Running alongside the Students Course are Courses for Teachers of Ballet under the direction of highly qualified and experienced teachers - Dianne Cheesman (South Africa), Cristina Zatti (Italy) and Maria Palmeirim (Portugal). The courses concentrate on different levels of tuition for different standards of students, from the basic grades up to advanced and vocational levels.

MASTER CLASS – an exciting new element this year!

Maria Palmeirim – Ballet Mistress – Companhia Nacional de Bailado, Lisbon, has kindly agreed to give a Master Class on Friday 2nd April.

PERFORMANCES FOR THE PUBLIC

Dance Algarve is delighted to welcome the Cape Junior Ballet once again! The members will attend all the classes over the four days, and on the evenings of Thursday 1st and Friday 2nd April, under the dynamic direction of Dianne Cheesman, they will enchant us with their professional artistry.

The appearance of the Cape Junior Ballet will form part of a mixed programme on these evenings.

The performances are open to the public – tickets are available at the Centro de Cultural.

Bookings for Dance Algarve and the Teacher's Course

It is Sunday 20th December. It is raining and cold in Lagos today, but tomorrow is the shortest day, and Spring will be coming soon!

We are busy creating posters, leaflets, certificates etc, and arranging publicity.

The bookings for the Students Course are coming too - slowly but surely. There are bound to be more after Christmas, before the rush to secure a place by January 22nd, in time to benefit from the Early Payment scheme.

Bookings are also being made for the Teacher's Courses - there is an Early Payment scheme in place for these Courses too.

Eminent teachers, Cristina Zatti from Italy, Dianne Cheesman from South Africa and Maria Palmeirim from the Companhia Nacional de Bailado, Lisbon, will lead the courses for teachers, which are run in two distinct sessions this year.

Cristina Zatti and Dianne Cheesman will direct courses for the teachers of young children under the graded system, while Maria Palmeirim will work with teachers who wish to concentrate on higher levels. The opportunities for inspiration and learning are manifold!

DANCE ALGARVE 2010

It is Monday 14th December and I am in Lagos, Portugal. This pretty, historic town is preparing for Christmas and there are decorations everywhere. All along the main avenida the palm trees are wreathed in lights, and despite the recession, the shops are busy.

But I am not here because it is Christmas. I have volunteered to help with the administration for Dance Algarve 2010, and this will be the main focus of my energy for the next few months.

Everything is in place - the distinguished Faculty are booked and confirmed, and their travel and accommodation arrangements made. The programme for the students offers a stimulating mix of classical and modern dance, flamenco and mask workshops, and there is the opportunity for performance on the last night of the Course.

On the two preceding evenings specially invited groups will perform for the public, and this year we are honoured to have the CAPE JUNIOR BALLET with us once again. The students will attend the Course by day, and enchant us for two nights with their artistry, under the dynamic direction of Dianne Cheesman.

The rest of the programme for these evenings is as yet unconfirmed. More news will be posted soon!
